Meet Zoya
Zoya Naz Mohsin was born on October 27th, 2023, with a congenital condition known as Skeletal Dysplasia, specifically Type II Collagen. This condition impacted the length of her long bones, affecting her arms, thighs, and rib cage. Due to her small chest and rib cage, Zoya faced challenges in inflating her lungs.
In her medical journey, Zoya underwent intubation (breathing tube) for 3 weeks, followed by a successful extubation period of 5 weeks during which she showed progress. However, she later had to be reintubated for 2 weeks due to respiratory distress. Unfortunately, Zoya couldn't survive the last extubation on Friday, January 5th, as she heavily depended on mechanical ventilator support, leading to a cardiac arrest due to respiratory failure.
Zoya, a resilient soul, was cherished by everyone at John's Hopkins NICU. Despite the adversities, she exhibited remarkable progress and found joy in dressing up daily in new outfits with matching bows. Our family had the privilege of spending a full 10 weeks with baby Zoya in her NICU room, treasuring every moment together.
Please join us in exploring Zoya's journey on this website and getting to know her beyond her medical condition. Zoya was more than a candidate for this rare disease; she was vibrant and left a trail of joy among our friends, families, and her NICU team.
